Part-time Research Technician Biochemistry/Crystallography
Salary scale: £30,160 – £34,270 p.a. (pro rata)

A Research Technician position is available in the group of Dr Jasper
van Thor at Imperial College London’s South Kensington Campus. Working
as part of the group, you will provide support primarily in recombinant
protein production and crystallization. As a Key member of the group you
will work closely with laboratory members in the area of femtosecond
laser spectroscopy and ultrafast time resolved protein X-ray
crystallography.
The main duties of the post are to maintain and develop the biochemistry
procedures needed for protein production and crystallization. The post
holder will provide sample preparation support to members of the
laboratory. You will also carry out recombinant protein production and
purification, protein crystallisation, and molecular biology procedures
including mutagenesis. The post holder will also be required to travel
to USA, Germany, Switzerland, Korea and Japan to provide support during
XFEL trips
You must have or a BSc (or equivalent) in Biochemistry, Biology,
Chemistry plus work experience or HNC/HND level qualification plus
substantial work experience in a relevant Technical or scientific role.
Experience in laboratory-based and laboratory biochemical procedures are
essential. Knowledge of molecular biology and recombinant protein
purification techniques are essential.
The position is part time of 17.5 hours per week and it is available for
up to 37 months, with a possibility of extension subject to funding.
