Hannover Medical School (MHH), with about 10,000 employees, is the largest state university hospital in Lower Saxony, where research, teaching, patient care, and administrative work are integrated at the same MHH campus area. The Institute of Biophysical Chemistry and the affiliated Central Research Division for Structural Biochemistry of the MHH have excellent research infrastructure. Our research is focused on molecular motors, cell motility, host-pathogen interactions, and innate immune defense mechanisms. The research groups of the institute make scientific contributions to the main research areas of the MHH and are active in the Cluster of Excellence RESIST, an ERA network on rare diseases with a focus on "non-muscular actinopathies", and regular experiments at the synchrotron sources PETRA-III, ESRF, and SOLEIL.
