Just in case something like this happens to someone else: I am running the Gnome display server and I did another restart and I can now run Coot. The magic of rebooting... cheers, tom ________________________________ From: Paul Emsley <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, July 7, 2023 2:09 AM To: Tom Peat <[email protected]>; [email protected] <[email protected]> Subject: Re: [ccp4bb] Coot query

It seems to me then that running an X11-based application will have to go via XWayland, and who knows what goodies that could bring. So my suggestion to you is to try rebooting and using an X11-based display manager. I will note here that a person such as yourself Tom could compile the gtk4 branch of Coot, which can now run on Wayland directly.
