Just a late imitation of the CDC 808 hard disk drive--the difference
being that the 808 could handle several tracks at once without moving
the heads.  Big 6+ ft. boxes, 4 spindles. 2 5 hp spindle motors, 2
hydraulic positioners (808--807 was half that).  When disk drives were
*big*.   Nihil sub sole novum.   I think I have a single 808 head in my
desk drawer, somewhere.
