AEC was split up into NRC, mostly now composed of attorneys, gynecologists, architects, and theologians, who see it as their duty to suppress nuclear power, and (initially) ERDA, or Energy Research and Development Agency. ERDA became DoE. So DoE is, along with NRC, a descendant of AEC.
