Is there ANY reason why windows N can't work with legacy drivers from Windows N-1?

For what it's worth, Windows 10 runs fine on an IBM Thinkpad X61 in 64 bit mode with no issues. 2007 system means it's running fine 19 years later. I should fire it up and upgrade to Windows 11.....

That should be interesting.  The problem with Windows 11 on older hardware is the insistence upon a TPM-2.0 compliant TPM.  There have been some fitful work-arounds when a 1.2 TPM is installed, but with no TPM hardware I seriously doubt you can convince that steaming pile of crap to install, particularly since they seem to have decided to store the BitLocker keys in the TPM.

This just seems like reason 1E+32 to avoid the Windows ecosystem when possible.
