I was attending a community college about that time studying to be an electronic technician.  We where working on getting some S100 8080 systems going specifically we where building front panels that one of our instructors was designing all hand wirewraped and he kept changing his mind and w would have to strip out some of the wiring and apply his changes, one time when he came in with a change a goup of us said "right! that's it" and left and went to a pub down the street.  I recall him telling us about this fantastic new process that had come out that was a big improvement over the 8080, he was of course referring to the Z80.
