I just received notification that the update to libmotif 2.3.4
has hit Debian experimental (in main).
The plan, from what I understand, is that it will be the default Motif for
Jessie.

For reference, there will be some changes as to how you need to build
CDE on Debian:
-No need to enable non-free
-This package is "multilib" enabled. All libraries are now in
$PREFIX/lib/<triplet>, where triplet is a GNU-style triplet
($ARCH-kernel-libc -> i386-linux-gnu, i386-kfreebsd-gnu)
The right directory is found automatically for libXt, though I'm not sure if
you may need to set UsrLibDir.
-Most important, Motif is not configured with X Print support.

Also, I suspect that something using pkg-cconfig or pkg-conf may be desirable
in the long term.  I may try to get that into Motif, just to aid things 
along...
