Forgive me if you're already aware of this, but you need to run the ToolTalk database server to run Tooltalk utilities, like ttsession. Make sure that ttdbserverd is running before ttsession starts?
I'm just guessing. I didn't see any smoking gun in the backtrace, but it's also not a source landscape I'm familiar with.
