My experience was that when using fetchmail (or getmail, or dtmail's builtin IMAP), you cannot leave messages on the server. If you do, they will be repeatedly fetched, causing much duplication. Local deletion also does not propagate back to the server. This is not how IMAP was intended to work; it is glorified POP. Does this not match your experience?
