FWIW the JRI author became friendlier (my fault for calling it too early
there), and is of the personal opinion that because he compiles to R's API
only, and because the R API is released under the LGPL (although I don't
know where that's documented), he legitimately uses LGPL. If you actually
use R, however, through the JRI, then he thinks you're bound to the GPL. I
am (kind of glad I'm) not a lawyer. : )
