Hi John. Responses below... > If I opened an account with eBay, could I charge a price for telling > people about the link to your site instead of sending them a CD?
I'm not sure about this, but it may be a breach of eBay's TOS (Terms of Service). > > I have noticed a person on eBay selling your product, but when you > purchase from him for $7.49, you just get the link to your site to > download the item. That would almost certainly be a breach, and is also something we disapprove of. There are some sites around who simply send a link (not just for OpenOffice.org, BTW), but the link is it a private server, and not to our download pages. That is (IMO) still a bit "iffy", but of course is something we have no control over. And of course, if it is the seller's own server, then one would argue that the seller has the right to charge, if only to cover his bandwidth costs. But giving a direct link to the OO.o download pages is IMO not entirely honest. > > If you want to check, its eBay number 250484682930 and also check out > the feedback. You will see that he does not send out a CD for it. I'll check it out in a while. If we feel he has breached any TOS or otherwise, we'll see about what we can do then... > > Awaiting your reply, > > John. -- Alex Fisher Co-Lead, CD-ROM Project OpenOffice.org Marketing Community Contact Australia/New Zealand http://distribution.openoffice.org/cdrom/ --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [email protected] For additional commands, e-mail: [email protected]
