Why does the ATAPI cdrom driver in Windows _95_ have a setting to
enable/disable disconnect?  It isn't greyed out.  Just curious as
to if it does anything at all.  I've played with it before but
never knew what exactly it did and didn't notice.  I never
touched it while burning or erasing though.

Jens Axboe said he has a utility in UDF/DVD tools that will erase
a CDRW in an ATAPI burner and enable disconnect.  I can email you
the message I got from him if you'd like.  Perhaps that would
enable you to add support to cdrecord as well.  That would be
really nice indeed for me...
