Good to read that so many people are trying the 2.4 "test" series
of linux kernels. As Norbert correctly states SCSI mid level
changes in lk 2.4.0-test9-pre3 broke the sg driver, especially
when it was built in (worked for me as a module which was
strange because the driver was uninitialized). This was
fixed in lk 2.4.0-test9-pre6 .
