This won't work for mixed mode CDs. To get a 1:1 copy you should use
cdrdao software and right hardware. Use the --read-raw switch to set the
mode page for reporting raw data sectors. Use the generic-mmc-raw driver
to write these sectors without rebuilding ecc-edc blocks. This way you
should get a copy as close to the original as possible. You can backup
normal data CDs without protection schemes or reading errors with cdrecord
in the way you said above, with dd or readcd. Cdrecord does not currently
support generic-mmc-raw driver. Joerg (correct me if I'm wrong) said this
is planned for the end of the year, since he's putting much effort on
mkisofs right now.
