Hi all.
Joerg told me my problem must be in kernel or in cd-player
program. I've tried another two programs without success,
then I misckicked at gtcd and it worked!
So, I've tested some audio-cd players and found these as
playing ok with/without ide-scsi emulation:
* ascd (Afterstep dock app)
* cccd
* gcd
* gtcd (from GNOME audio)
* groovycd (ncurses)
* wmcdplay (Windowmaker dock app)
and these as playing just *without* scsi emulation:
* cdplayer_applet (GNOME panel applet)
* cdtool (cdplay, cdstop, cdir, cdinfo, cdvolume, cdctrl...)
* dcd
* xfreecd
failing with message:
cdplay: ioctl cdromplaytrkind
and in /var/log/syslog:
kernel: sr0: CDROM (ioctl) reports ILLEGAL REQUEST.
Unfortunately broken are my favourites - cdplay and
cdplayer_applet :-(
Now I'd like to ask you, if you could test yourself some of
these and let me know if you encounter same problem with the same
apps.
If so, I'll begin bark at their developers to correct it.
Thanks,
M. Bauer
P.S. After further testing I found, that those broken can
pause/resume, stop the cd, but can't
start, skip tracks, so failing is probably just the
initial function (command to start play).
