This is a response from long ago...like a month :)

I tried installing cdrtools-1.10, but I get errors from smake:

That doesn't help much.  The README file for cdrtools-1.10 says:
This is Version 1.8.1 of cdrecord
which is odd...

Also, I downloaded the updated sg driver you wrote, but it just consists
of source
and include files, and no instructions on installation.  I'm hoping to
install it as a module...
