Hi,

I've no idea whats happening in your case, but I can say that Ultra Plex 40
(Ultra-SCSI, narrow (i.e. non wide) connector) is working fine with cdrecord
and cdda2wav.

Only thing I experience is, that the Plex40 shifts to low speed DAE quite
often if the read CD is not in perfect condition. But that's entirely the
plex-hardware deciding on this. I also used a Plex 6x (tray) before and never
had problems with it.

Almost every time I had SCSI problems with kernel alltogether or scsi
subsystem hanging it was caused by cabling, termination or bad hardware.

Your Adaptec 2940U2W SCSI controller probably has 2 channles, one U2W (LVD
mode), one UW (SE mode). Your CDR drives will only run in SE mode and maybe
you should use that connector. And check the terminators on the drives as
well as the automatically(?) detected termination on the card (channels).
