Has anyone noticed a higher rate of various write errors with CDRECORD
(version 1.11a08)?
Several of my clients (that have RedHat Linux 6.2 installed) and that I've
upgraded to the 1.11a08, have been having more-than-usual write errors.
They range from mid-track errors, to fixation errors, to reporting that a
disk is supposedly write-protected.
The mid-track errors can be attributed to bad CD-R, I understand. The
'write-protected' can probably be attributed to user-error (putting in a
previously burned disk.) Unfortunately, I can't verify any of these because
my clients are long-distance to me.
The failure of fixation puzzles me, tho. This is one that I have VERIFIED
happened - I reviewed the output of CDRECORD, and had the disk mailed to
me. All I had to do was properly fix the disk (-fix) and the disk was fine
after that.
Now, this has happened on two specific clients of mine, one which has a
Plextor PX-W1210S, and the other, which has a Plextor PX-W124TS. (Note that
I have other clients using the same drives, and without a problem, so far.)
It all seems to start when they were put on 1.11a08. I'm tempted to
recompile for them and put them on a15, but though I'd ask for other
opinions on it. One client is using TDK (Manuf. index: 22; Manufacturer:
Ritek Co.), the other varies between same and some no-name brand (no log
available for that one.)
Thanks!
Mike.
