As I already stated: people who try out star usually never use anything else 
after that.

It is the other way round: GNU tar is not a drop in replacement for Star,
star is much older thanGNU tar and if there is an incompatibility on the 
comandline then it is most likely an option that has been impemented by star 
before 1989.
