i've recently picked up a Memorex 2.4X DVD+R/W drive, model # "3202 3251".
so far i've been unable to achieve my goal of writing iso9660 to DVD+R
media, for reading in a DVD-ROM drive. can someone help me see what's
going wrong?
system: redhat 7.3 with all available updates
kernel: stock redhat 2.4.20-19.7smp
cdrtools-cdrecord-2.0-1:
works for burning CD-R's
dvdrecord-0.1.2-1:
doesn't work: "dvdrecord: Input/output error. flush cache: scsi
sendcmd: no error". dvd+rw faq notes that this doesn't work, but
doesn't say why, or if it is corrected in an updated version :(
dvd+rw-tools-5.10.4.5.4:
with growisofs -Z /dev/scd0 -R -J /blah i can burn a DVD+RW that
the same drive can read, but DVD-ROMs can't read
("mount: block device /dev/hdc is write-protected, mounting read-only
mount: No medium found")
with growisofs -Z /dev/scd0 -R -J -dvd-compat /blah i can burn a
DVD+R that the same drive can read, but DVD-ROMs can't read
(same error, tried two different DVD-ROM drives in 2 hosts)
when i didn't use -dvd-compat with +R media, i got "unable to READ
TRACK INFORMATION: Input/output error" (even after a reboot, and
mounting CDs still worked)
i am burning a single 1.5Gb file, but that should be ok
i am using memorex brand DVD+RW and 4X DVD+R media
this drive is the only device on the ide segment, hosted on a Promise
ata100 controller.
hardware is dell poweredge 2550 (SMP P3, ServerWorks chipset)
what must i change to be able to write an iso9660 filesystem that i can
read from a dvd-rom drive? are there any known problems with this drive?
