I created a DVD with mkisofs 2.01a29-unofficial-iconv 
(i686-pc-linux-gnu) on a
debian Linux system.

I could not find any mount option that would show me the real size of a file
which was about 3GB in size, but on Solaris the sizes are correct.
So I think that mkisofs works with large file sizes, but Linux (i.e., 
the iso9660 fs)
has no support for them yet.
