After copying mfc42.dll from Windows partition, the VPC 2K7 installation
went OK. However, like you, the emulator didn't find the VMNet driver.
I guess that we hit a dead end here. From Wine FAQs, it seems that this
virtual network driver won't work ever under Wine
http://www.winehq.org/site/docs/wine-faq/index#USE-WINDOWS-DRIVER-WITH-WINE
So, I'm wondering if it's worth to continue spending time on this.. (I know,
the emulator without network connectivity can be somehow very limited for
several applications/projects).
I imagine two other roads to follow (again, maybe they're not worth either):
1. Using ReactOS under qemu for Linux (mmm, perhaps someone is thinking
about too many layers of emulation...) There's
2. Using qemu for Linux to run the emulator images (i.e. PPC_USA.BIN) since
qemu is able to emulate ARM architectures and the MS Device emulator is a
ARM920T. I did some initial testing with this approach, but I should go
further to try to understand the .BIN file structure. As a hint, here's a
good explanation about qemu and the ARM emulation (Ethernet, SCSI) and how
to install Debian
