Hi all, We have made our decisions regarding GSoC 2009 students we are accepting. I'm not going to announce the students here already since Google will do that tomorrow (monday) but I just wanted to express thanks at the high quality of proposals we got this year. It was really very hard for us to choose the proposals for the five slots and it is very unfortunate that some very good proposals will end up not being selected.
We got five slots from google this year and we're very happy with that. So five students will be put in the GSoC program. However, due to the high quality of proposals this year I would like to use the money we got from GSoC 2008 to pay one additional student for working on his project. Instead of the 4500 USD that this sixth person will get from google it will only be 2000 USD (that's all we have). So tomorrow, after the five selected students are known I will contact (in private) the person who is sixth on our list and ask if the person agrees with this. If so we got a sixth student. If not I'll go to the next on our list. We expect roughly the same performance of this student as with the normal GSoC students. However, we will probably be a bit more lenient with regards to deadlines (but not THAT much more lenient mind you!).
