7:45am today, I'm already sitting in Dunkin Donuts in Baldwinsville, N.Y.

enjoying my coffee and apple fritter and all the bare belly's. The style
now,

the girls, all seem to wear the pull over tops that are about 3-4 inches to

short.............some look great.............but I'm getting kind of sick
of

seeing the others who show rolls....................not good girls.

Here comes Little Joan Perkins, she decided to join me for part of the day

in the Baldwinsville cemetery. We were supposed to leave D.D. by 8:30am but
I

couldn't get her moving till 8:50am, she's always got a story to

tell.............. :)

About ten minutes later we arrived at Riverview Cemetery. This is a very

large cemetery and very well kept. Only saw one sign of vandalism in this
burial

ground. Joan had a jacket on, I was out in short sleeves and the sun was

beating down.

First odd name that caught out attention was Scabra wife of Eli Perry who

died Sept 24, 1855, 26 years, 9 months and 16 days.( I wonder if her
nickname

was Scabby??)

Next was a normal name but seems like he was on the wrong side in the war.

William H. Lee-private 151st U.S. Engineers, Civil War Veteran died May 9,

1893 at age 57. I'll bet he took some kidding about his last name being on
the

side of the North. ..................

I hope this lady wasn't crummy..............Clara Crum died Jan 19, 1864.

The first celebrity name to be found here....................John Kennedy

Co. C, 50th Regiment of New York Volunteers died Now 28, 1910 age 71.

Now heres a good start.........Augustus Start died (or in his case,

finished) March 18, 1876 and below read............

"He greeteth His beloved Sleep"

Next, Athanase Watier, a member of Co. A, 185th Reg't, New York Volunteers

"Killed in battle at Gravely Run, Virginia" , March 29, 1865 aged 36.

Now heres that strange Scottish/ Indian guy we found, Hiram McHuron(I think

this is an off chute of the Huron tribe, watcha' think eh ?) died Dec 8,
1871

at age 74.

Another odd name Mathew Englishbery died Aug 21, 1853

Warren Cox, a member of Battery B, New York Volunteers, 1st Artillery, died

at Harpers Ferry Nov 13, 1862 aged 19 years, 3 months and 20 days.

Now heres a good name.........Hanmer C. Degolyer died Feb 23, 1851 at age 23

years.

Our next celebrity George Gobel died Dec 10, 1860 (remember him?)

Odd names all over in here...............Loami Nearing died Sept 15, 1821

Its now afternoon and Joan ran out of time. Now I'm on my own to finish the

rest of the cemetery. Kind of new sections remained, but I did find some
good

photo opportunities. So I finished up here and headed down the road to the

next Under Ground City..............

St. Mary's Cemetery established 1881. Not very old and really not much to

remark on in here. In the back of the cemetery someone was getting planted,
so I

didn't go back in that area as it looked like family members were leaving

the site.

Odd though, first place I stopped the car, I looked down and

found.............David Fleming born in Cork, Ireland Oct 1810 and died Aug
21, 1888.

Some

coincidence eh !

Next I saw Cornelius Leahy Sullivan, Private, Co. A, 185th Regt. New York

State Volunteers, died Feb. 5, 1865 at The Battle of Hatcher's Run, Virginia

Bad spelling? or stone cutters error? Anna Burke wife of Martin Ryan died

Aug 31, 1898 age 80 years. And right alongside...Martin Rion(should be,
Ryan)

died Sept 7, 1880 age 65 years.

Kind of the end of St. Mary's, not much old in here, but did get a few

photos. Not as good of condition as Riverview Cemetery. And some damage to
stones

was noted.

Trying to follow a map to the next stop. I guess a few wrong turns as I

didn't end up where I wanted but, then again that's how you finds

things...............there's always another cemetery around

somewhere...............Theres

one, but where am I? Turns out to be the village of Lysander, not huge by
any

means but it did have some interesting stones in here.

The far side I'm walking along, now this so far takes the prize for best

smelling cemetery, there were some sort of trees along the border of the
stones

and they were like a nice perfume, the trees had little white flowers and
the

scent was throughout the cemetery, neat.

Odd spelling here ....... Wandell(not Wendell) son of John and Eunice

Hillebrent died July 20, 1868 aged 20

I wonder if this guy collected stamps?????? Frederick Stampp died Oct 15,

1875 aged 48 years, 5 months and 4 days and below.............

"Rest here loved one

Thy work on earth is done"

Came across a Revolutionary Soldier next......Jacob Northrop died July 28,

1848 aged 78.

Next Laurence Reed McCarty of Co. K, 102nd Reg. , 26th Div.

Killed in action Oct 27, 1918 at Bois D'Ormont, France and below

read.................

"His ancestors fought to make America free

He gave his life that the world might be free"

Probably 10-12 Townsend family members buried in here also, in case Kelly is

interested? One being..........

Dea(<probably Deacon) William Townsend Died Feb 4, 1853, 73rd year of his

life.

Another odd name Aulchie wife of Henry Mount died Feb 17, 1871 aged 50

Eunice A. Smith died Dec 9, 1844 aged 13 years and below

read................

"My parents dear weep not for me

When in this yard my grave you see

My time was short blest be He

Who called me to eternity" I left here and found a yellow

plastic flower and came back and placed it on her grave. Only

13.............................

I picked up only one flag here and headed out to see what else I could find.

It was a very well kept country cemetery.

Theres another.......Plainville Cemetery was

next.........................another well kept burial ground.

Emma Frick 1857-1939, I looked, but there was no Frack....................

An odd one Francis Carncross died June 7, 1884 aged 34.

Next Mr. John Dodson died July 13, 1833 age 34 years, 7 months, 14 days

and below...

" My children dear assemble here

A fathers grave to see

Not long ago I dwelt with you

And soon you'll dwell with me"

Ruel Upson was the next unusual name died Feb 17, 1830 in the 85th year of

his age.

This one had some unusual information on the face of the

stone........................

Rev. Benjamin B. Schenk died March 22, 1883

Descent-Barons of Toutenburg, Holland 879AD

General Peter Schenk 1225 AD

On one side it read........Benjamin Rush died Sept 14, 1861

The other side Sally Gaby Died May 19, 1843 age 78

Revolutionary Soldier was next............In memory of Silas Scofield who

died Nov 22, 1837 aged 78.

Odd first name Jabez L. Paul died Jan 18, 1879 age 53 years, 5 months and

10 days

This was it for today, probably 400-500 burials here and very well kept and

saw no damage.

It was another good day.

Next week, Ogdensburg

Best

Bill
