March 29th started out at 28F/-2C at 6:00am. The forecast, a clear sunny day
and warmer than normal temperatures. A good day to head out to "Casket
Country."
At 7:47am I arrived at a no name "Body Shop" in Cayuga County(New York) just
a bit off of Route 370 on Myers Road. This is a semi abandoned "Eternal
Checkout."
Roughly 40 stones were showing. And glad to see I haven't run out of finding
odd names.........heres a sampling of what I found there.
Celestia F. Dudley, daughter of Sardis and Mary Dudley died Oct 23, 1813
aged 2 years.
Sardis Dudley died Jan 26, 1876, aged 84 years and 16 days.
Harry Ferris died Dec 5, 1878 aged 82 years.
Elizabeth, wife of Henry Ferris who died Feb 21, 1809 aged 43 years.
Slight shock here, something is wrapping around my legs. Its cemetery cat! A
big gray feline who just wants attention. It appeared clean and didn't stink
so I gave it some scratching and petting. My immediate best friend. Lays
down, rolls over and wants it's belly scratched. After a minute or so giving
it
attention, I continued on with it under foot till I reached the car.
Deacon Thacher I. Ferris born Jan 5, 1787 and died Jan 4, 1864.
Elizabeth Bulhand died Aug 16, 1828 aged 56 years.
I decided to leave this "Last Roundup," without the cat. And its definitely
a semi abandoned site. Many many 3' X 6' impressions here.
Picked up 1 flag here and walked 2/10th of a mile. Vacated at 8:10am.
8:14am brings me to Meridian Cemetery on Route 370.

Freelove Bloomfield died Sept 27, 1862 aged 67 years, 4 months and 9 days.
This next lady I'm sure has had some frost from time to time............
Mary Drew Frost 1868-1951.
Ransom Hunt died June 10, 1811 aged 30 years
"I am where God and glory shine
His presence makes eternal day."
Rulif Shepherd died Oct 31, 1863 in his 68th year.

Lorama Olmsted born Nov 1, 1829 and died June 24, 1851.
Romine O. Bush 1821-1908.
Heres a little stone fallen over. I picked it up and its now standing again.
And I took a before and after photo.
"Our Little Lorie".........thats all it said.
I wonder if this next guy was crude and rude?
Myron B. Rude 1808-1892.
Next a great husband and wife team. I wonder if they're last names had
anything to do with them coming together? Did they ever moon anyone? Were
they
the butt of many jokes?..................and I have them on film.
Louise E. Moon 1873-19__
husband
Francis W. Butts 1878-1923.
Patree Scutt died Nov 21, 1878 aged 83 years.
Thola T. Schenck 1885-1965.
When you die, you can say the person was removed, this guy did it twice.
William Joralemon 1849-1899 removed(< which was cut into the stone right
under his name.Maybe he went to greener pastures???????)
I would guess this next guy might have been very skinny in life and properly
nick named in death.
Clarence J. Halstead "commonly known as bones" 1909-1994.
Remember that commercial for the "Clapper." Clap on, clap off.......this one
didn't work.
Judson T. Clapper 1848-1923.................(<so I guess his lights were
permanently out..........)
Omr Shaver died Oct 22, 1869 aged 17 years and 1 month. (< just a little
shaver...........)
Now I have my jacket off and the rest of the day just a T-shirt and short
sleeve shirt. At the very end of this "Body Bog" I actually saw a butterfly.
I
went over to it sitting on a piece of wood, just opening and closing its
wings, it was all black with red on the tips of its wings, kind of early I
thought. Maybe he was thawing out?
I picked up 3 flags in this "Cold Storage Park" and vacated at 10:00am.
Just down the road a ways, or as they say in this area, just down the road a
piece, I came to a little "Dead District" with no name but apparently its
the
founders cemetery for the area, half way between nothing and nowhere. From
the road there are no stones showing, only a flag pole. But, walking into
the
field, there they were, all laying down flush with the soil in two long
straight rows, which tells me they have been moved from all around the field
to
their present location. They just don't plant them like that.Soooooooooo, I
guess you would call this one a "Flat Line Area".
Heres a sampling...............
Ruama Loveless died March 1, 1817 in the 69th year of her age.
In memory of Elder Orlando Mael who died Aug 12, 1820 in the 47th year of
his age.
Marthy(<male) Corbin died Sept 5, 1862 aged 86 years.
And right along side........
Rosetta wife of Marthy Corbin(< she had no dates nor maiden name but at
least I found the Rosetta stone.............................
Showing here, about 80 stone, give or take, walked 2/10ths mile and vacated
at 10:24am.
Union Hill Cemetery in Cato is next at the corner of Route 370 and Route 34.
This is the "Captivated Audience" I was at during the winter that I happen
to see and couldn't get down one of the hills in there due to mush, ice and
snow. Fine and dry now.
Viileman Olmstead died Oct 26, 1890 aged 87 years, 4 months and 3 days.
Hillbern Jones Aug 1, 1849- Aug 6, 1918.
Ezha F. Barker ( I like the spelling here>) Beried in Victory Cemetery. (<So
this is a cenotaph.)
Along the side of the "Cold Storage Park" is a building, looks like an
office/chapel combo. But the sign on the side said......."Choice lots for
sale,
reasonable rates." which is fine but the day before I was in the grocery
store
and they had a sign saying Choice Cuts of Meat, I guess either way its Dead
Meat..................
Zilpha Bishop died April 17,1872 aged 63years, 21 days.
Today has just got to be animal day. As I'm writing something is rubbing
against my leg, big black lab. They always remind me of hyper active
children
who immediately become your best friend. This one had a thing for sticks.
Pull
it out of his mouth and throw it, but he never brought back the same
stick.............maybe he buried them, and what better place to do
it............
Wava C. Mills (<what's a Wava?) 1917-1938.
Robert Johnson born in England Nov 21, 1802 and died May 1, 1865.

Another great name
Angabest Turner died March 30, 1860 aged 25 years, Co. H, N.Y.Vol.(at least

Jane Quereau 1816-1855
Pearson
Our
Little Johnny
His Little Feet Will Never Go Astray
died May 27, 1874
Cherrie A. Rose 1878-1932
I hear thump thump and the black lab came out of no where and jumped on my
back, almost went over and down to a mausoleum the fast way. Time to throw
sticks again............then he leaves.
Betsey Brown wife of Elihu Perry, born in Rensalaerville, N.Y. July 29, 1792
and died in Cato April 6, 1867.
Elizabeth Monday Allnut(< good one) 1859-1917
Down the side of a little ridge, what do I see, a body. Its all dressed in
white and black tape across its eyes and very stiff. About 14 inches high
and
appeared to be a Ken or a GI Joe doll, I got a photo.........LOL Now what
did you think????????
Rollo W. Peake 1890-1935. (I knew a guy by the last name of Rollo and I used
to eat rollo candy, but never heard it as a first name.)
William Hooker, I replaced this guys little stone as it was knocked over, it
had no dates.
Selick J.Chase, Co. G, 111th Regt. N.Y. Vol. 1836-1913.
Black lab is back, stick in mouth, this time he wants to play tug of war.
Now just wants to be petted. And a big sneeze, damn, I never saw a pile of
snot
that big before even out of a dog, he must have
bronchitis...................then he looks at me turning his head like,
"Gee, what
do you think of that
eh ?" < well, that was the look on his face anyway. I did say Bless
you..............
Zola D. Roarke 1888-1961
Hurlon H. Hopkins 1859-1918
Walked 1.7 miles in this "Family Cover Up." Might mention all through this
one all the trees were tapped and I checked one of the pales and the sap was
really flowing.
I vacated here at 12:32pm.
12:43pm brings me to Victory Cemetery, Old State Road just off of Route 370.
Got to mention until now, don't think I've ever heard of this tiny place
called Victory. I do remember Victory Grocery Stores, but that's it. But
this
place is named wrong, should be "A Loss" not a Victory. I noticed all the
vehicles, cars and pick up trucks were all multi coloured. Example, white
body,
green door and yellow hood. Cars were maybe red body green quater panel and
brown door. Get the idea?
Jarrus Chittenden died May 28, 1852 aged 76 years.
Christopher Timerson died May 8, 1883 aged 72 years, 6 months.

Now heres a good one, I'm looking at my name on the stone............
William Fleming 1845-1915 (but his wife left in a huff.........)
Carrie Huff 1845-1928
Oh boy, now there's a flag. I picked this flag up wrapped around a couple
stones and measured it against my height, it was 8 foot long. Looking around
I
noticed they had a flag pole that was bare. So it had to be the cemetery
flag, biggest one I've found so far. I walked it over to the flag pole with
the
intentions of attaching it and running it up the pole. Who ever handles the
flag pole there is either a sailor or a boy scout. I couldn't figure out the
knot. But, being so big I managed to tie the flag in a knot right around the
pole, off the ground.
GGGbbblle, awful loud goofy sounding noise now a couple rows away, out pops
a big turkey. Happy Thanksgiving.....................told you it was animal
day................
Walked 2.2 miles in this "Dead District," picked up 7 smaller flags besides
the big one. And vacated at 2:00pm.
The French Cemetery is next on Clark Road a couple blocks off of Route 370.
I was especially looking forward to this one until I realized its not French
as in nationality, its the last name French.
Puella Griswold died Nov 21, 1868 59 years.
Pay attention to spelling on this one.........
Wife of Ruben Coon(<apparently she didn't have a name and maybe the wrong
one at that?) died Feb 24, 1860 aged 77 years 2 months.
And right along side her husbands stone..........
Reuben Koon died Sept 30, 1871, aged 87 years, 6 months and 8 days.
Anna wife of Smiton Irish, died Oct 16, 1867 aged 65 years.
A stone repair, and I recognize what they used. This broken stone had four
cross arm braces holding it together. Used to carry bundles of them on the
truck all the time, heavy. I guess they belonged to RG and E as I'm not in
the
NiMo/Grid area anymore.
In memory of Anna, wife of Philip Spickerman who died May 20, 1822 aged 38
years.
Laban Creore died Oct 9, 1877 aged 83 years.
Mahepsiba relict of John Telford died April 1, 1861(really? or was that an
April Fools joke?) In the 78th year of her age.
Walked 7/10ths mile here and picked up 1 flag, vacated this "Ground Crowd"
at 2:42pm.
Now back tracked just a couple miles and headed north on Route 38, and guess
what I came into to? North Victory, same coloured
vehicles................LOL
But they had a Sunoco gas mini mart station = a Petro Canada Mini Mart
thing. I haven't had a coffee since I left the house, so in I went wondering
what
that would taste like. Actually, the coffee was exceptional. It sat right at
the intersection of Route 38 and Route 104. I did notice however the two
guys
behind the counter wouldn't even look at me, nor did they say a
word??????????? Guess they knew I was a foreigner..................
3:03pm brings me to Martville Cemetery on Route 104.
Think this guys parents had a sense of humour?
William Williams 1854-1895.
Alfrata Craft(< which reminded me of chicken alfredo, I think alfrata is
when its well done..............) died Jan 17, 1872 age 14 years and 6
months.
"She's gone - she's left this world of woe, for regions of eternal
love"
Hepy Baker died May 12, 1874 aged 27 years, 2 months and 7 days.
Dorland A. Horn 1912-1945. (I guess he or she blew it....................)
Hepsy A. Perkins 1824-1913.
I got Clara's dates..............
Clara Dates 1873-1956
Now heres a couple that really got the shaft......................
Milton Shaft 1830-1916
Anna M. Shaft 1848-1929.
Edward Shortsleeve(just what I had on) 1866-1937.
Looking up in the distance I see an animal in the field next to this ("Earth
Pie"- filled with people) because of the field and the animal I thought it
was a fawn, so going back to the car which wasn't to far from where I was at
the time I grabbed the binoculars, it turned out to be a real ratty looking
wolf. I watched him maybe ten minutes. They just aren't like the ones 'ya
see on
TV all clean and well groomed, these things are bad to the bone. I put the
binoculars back and grabbed my spray can of BEAR MACE, figure it will work
on
animals smaller then bears also. As I got closer to the end of this "Out of
Life Refuge" the wolf saw me, watched for a short time and trotted off into
the woods as I got closer............ next time.
Walked 1.3 miles here and vacated at 4:19pm.
Not a long ways from there I came into the Village of Hannibal, saw no
elephants though. Did find their "Put Down People Place" and drove through
it
thinking it to be at least a 2 hour walk. Based on the time and at this
point
according to the sign I'm about 53 miles from Rochester. I'll save it for
another time. Decided to call it a day.
Got home at 5:15pm and my face was beet red. I forgot to bring my new
Indiana Jones style hat I bought in Gettysburg last year just for this type
of sun
protection.
Sue gave it, its proper name last night, its now my Indiana Bones hat.
It was a fun day and now added it up to be 7.8 miles that I walked for the
day. I had planned on doing the same today but was a bit to sore when I got
up
to go out two days in a row.
I'll just wait till the next nice day.
Best
Bill I am not back on the list, this is only a report.
