6/27/2009, 6:57:14 AM Out the door at 5:22am and its 66F/18C. Heading east again today. 7:09am brings me to St Patrick's Cemetery in Johnstown, N.Y. on Rt. 67. Henry Lapointe 1857-1947. Fred Dupree 1877-1943. Emory M. Saltsman 1912-1980 (P) Bowen D. Arnold 1908-1974. Adrian C. Filiatrault Born Feb 24, 1897 and died March 10, 1986. William T. Doak Born Sept 5, 1930 and died Aug 23, 2002 (P) Patrick J. Fleming 1865-1895. The Persians, Syrians and Babylonians made huge candles out of their dead. (Early cremation.........LOL) They kept the bodies in person sized jars of wax or honey. Then it only needed a wick................... Ulick J. Joyce Jr. 1891-1946. Albert Lafontain 1904-1967. A car pulls in, in the distance, and I could see it was a lady getting out and immediately started walking towards my car on the hill. I could see her looking at the back of the car and lucense plates and started back to her car. I eventually walked that direction and confronted her. 'Hi, how 'ya doing, remember me from last year? we talked a while at the cemetery in Gloversville" So we again talked a while and she caught up on where I had been since I saw her last year. She walks her dog in cemeteries, apparently, and today happened to be this cemetery............................. Patrick Mee 1864-1930 (P). Mary Caldesaygues 1856-1892. Mary Dupree Favreau 1875-1911. Alexander Robarge 1857-1933. Walked 2.5 miles in this "Bereft of Life Pasture" and vacated at 9:38am. 9:47am brings me to Fonda Cemetery, guess where it is? Right, you win a cookie............in Fonda, N.Y. And its 76F. Gezena Vischer died Sept 9, 1815 age 67 years 10 months ands 4 days. "He lived He wept He smiled He groaned And died" Just had a friendly woodchuck pose for a couple shots........................LOL William Quant 1807-1874. Douw Fonda died May 22, 1780 age 79 years. Lelles Fonda died June 23, 1791 age 64 years 2 months and 19 days. <This is also a 'death head" stone. And right alongside the above stone, was another death head stone. But couldn't read it. Henry V. Fonda died April 23, 1799 age 29 years 5 months and 17 days. Barent Fonda died Jan 18, 1788 age 12 years 6 months and 14 days. This place needs lots of restoration work, elbow grease and some loving care........................ Obadiah Neahr 1833-1871. The Carthaginians were said to have eaten their dead. Only family members were allowed to partake. In fact it was their sacred duty. Winfield Scott 1853-1933(< your celebrity for the day..............) Walked .9 miles in this "Erased Life Land" and vacated at 10:50pm and 76F. 10:55am brings me to Maple Ave Cemetery at Fultonville and 80F. Leah S. Trumble Born Oct 25, 1878 and died June 21, 1935. Amelia Sixberry 1843-1902. (P) Gordon S. Weeper 1877-1942. (P) "She tasted of life's bitter cup Refused to drink the portion up But turned her little head aside Disgusted with the taste and died" David L. Brookman Pvt., Co. John Printup died July 6, 1845 age 61 years 7 months and 21 days. wife Cornelia Printup died April 5, 1826 age 43 years. Phebe Goody died March 29, 1888 age 54 years 9 months.(P). This next one is very odd and strange............ "My Uncles Missing Body" .....< no name or dates. John W. Brill 1879-1956 (P) Agenith Faulkner Born Dec 20, 1819 and died Dec 19, 1899. In the early years of the U.S. , funeral biscuits were handed out to those who came to view the body. Brazill MacNeil Born Sept 15, 1853 and died Sept 3, 1896. Simon M. Picked up 4 flags and walked 4.5 miles in this "Disregarded & Broken Hearted Field" and vacated at 3:15pm and its 83F. 3:36pm brings me to Evergreen Cemetery, on Hickory Hill Road off of Rt. 5 west of Fonda, this is a huge one. Here's a strange bit of history..................Part of the Roman death ritual meant the eldest surviving male of the household had to rush to the deathbed to try to inhale his dying parents last breath.
