Eliab Derby Massachusetts Troops, Revolutionary War Born March 8, 1750 and died May 29, 1812.( Everyone south of the border surely remembers the Declaration of Independence, but, it wasn't the first and the first declaration got no fame. Ever hear of the Coxsackie Declaration of Independence? It was roughly more than a year before the famous Declaration of Independence. Basically the same thing, but officially the first. Signed by French Huguenots, Dutchmen, Swedes and the Palatine Germans. So , old Sgt. Eliab would have been fighting for the Coxsackie Declaration of Independence also and may have not known it.) James Beegle died May 22, 1889 age 79 years 2 months and 14 days. Clovey D. Phelps 1796-1881. Just thinking, if you have body parts/relics from dead people such as Saints and Kings and Queens and they are moved, then you have a portable cemetery. And those items do exist and they do get moved............ 9:48am brings me to St Patricks Cemetery in Moravia, N.Y. The sign says closed but I'll park in the cemetery next door and walk over. At the price of gas today I'll pretend I didn't see that sign. Loyal A. Stoyell Pvt. US Army WW2 Born July 31, 1918 and died March 22, 1982. Richard A. Uneatta Reid Born Sept 22, 1908 and died April; 29, 2003. Henry Lalonde 1873-1927. Now a very large fire truck pulled in. Barely fits on the cemetery driveway. After watching them around 1/2 and hour, up and down and around and turning and backing up, I think they're giving a new guy some really bad terrain to drive and maneuver in. Up hill, down hill, frontward's and backwards. Done with this closed cemetery, and picked up 7 flags and 1 flower in this "Inert Metropolis" and walked .7 miles and vacated at 10:30am. A few feet walk brings me to Indian Mound Cemetery , same location and where I had my car parked while next door in the closed cemetery :) . I have to speculate here as I didn't look it up but the name of this cemetery leads me to believe this must have been an old Indian burial ground at one time. No signs/markers to explain. 10:30am I find............................. Everel F. Miller Born June 26, 1828 and died Feb 6, 1897. Ernest Le Masurier 1866-1935. Perleyett Perry 1850-1916. Morvin A. Dent Arnold 1886-1961.(< guess he's in the body shop now) Well, I just took a dive down the side of this hill, not intentionally. It was covered with moss and as I was standing at the top looking down seeing the best way to go down there, nature took over and I had no choice. Dirt, grass stain and a whole bunch of scrapes up and down the left arm. The only thing I lost was my hat and cant find my cane. The hat must have rolled on the rim and went 20 feet away. I have no idea where the cane went? I looked back up the hill and now I see my cane. It was smart and stayed up at the top of the hill and still standing upright. I got back up there and I must have pushed down on it when I went for the ride as the tip was imbedded in the ground as I said, and still standing upright. Anning Smith Lieut. N.Y. Militia Revolutionary war Born Dec 25, 1742 and died Oct 30, 1802.(Revolutionary War period and before reminds me of some very strange games that they played in that time period. One in particular was "Clubbing the Cat". Basically this is like a present day pinnate(<least I think its spelled that way, that Mexican game) type game. They put the live cat in a cask in the middle of a tightly stretched rope and then hurled clubs at it. The winner was the one who broke the cask and let the animal escape. Pulling the Goose was another favourite game of the time. They greased the head of a live goose and suspended it on a rope above the ground . Then a rider at full gallop would race towards it and grab it and they won if they pulled it free. I'm just betting there was no referee at that time and also that no one participating was sober.) Mr. Simeon Roust died Dec 21, 1833 age 76 years and 10 months wife Grace died Dec 25, 1833 age 75years "Friends and physicians could not save Those mortal bodies from the grave Nor can the grave confine them here When Christ shall call them appear." I just ran into a live couple who were looking for their ancestors in here. We talked about 20 minutes. The guy asked if I happen to know anything about genealogy.....................Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, told him to look at the back bumper of my car. I asked where they were from and they said Syracuse. I asked if they got the Sunday newspaper, which they did and then asked if they had seen the genealogy column about 4 weeks ago(at that time) . They read it and asked if they saw the article about the guy who did genealogy and visited cemeteries, yep, and the guy verified by adding a few things from the article I didn't mention. Then I told them, that was me. LOL Then the conversation got real serious.....................the guys family was originally from Canada............... Viola Bancroft Born May 30, 1922. Rowland D. Downer Perry 1787-1869. Next is something kind of funny and not funny. Also nothing I haven't seen before...........here is a grave and headstone and a huge hole that was probably dug by a wood chuck. Piles of dirt and stone and what caught my attention was something made of chrome sticking through the pile of dirt. I pulled it out and what it was, was the complete chrome handle from the side of the casket. 'Bout 4 years ago I found a similar situation and I saw something sticking out of the dirt and gave it a pull and it turned out to be a complete lower leg bone of the women buried below. That was in one of the past cemetery reports maybe 4 years ago. I remember examining it and then jammed it back into the hole and pushed dirt and stone in after it. 'Ya figure after years, the old coffin/casket unprotected my today's vaults just rot away, the body rots away leaving only bones, this in turn leaves a good sized cavity below ground that's just perfect for a rodent to make its home and or for someone like me the come along at the right time and end up in a old grave as its collapses below my feet. The bones and or metal casket/coffin parts mean no more to them then stones. So they get kicked out of the hole. Got a couple shots of this after examining the handle. Did I get a handle on this situation, or what? Dorr Smith 1840-1916. Daniel R. Livermore 1856-1925. Lawyer Mather died Sept 8, 1878 age 74 years. Leephe M. Alcott died Jan 31, 1880 age 58 years and 10 months. Walked .8 miles in this "Prison of Death" and vacated at 6:02pm and decided to head home. Arrived home at 6:58pm. Another great day with the dead. Best Bill I got 9.5 miles of walking in for this day.
