Ernie: Your point is well taken,There is one complication with respect to Kashmir in particular. I do not know enough relevant history to know one way or the other, but it is said that the minority status of Hindus in Kashmir is the result of Muslim persecutions of Hindus, who, until some date in the fairly recent past, were in the majority. IF this is true, then --as Hindus may see it-- it simply is payback time. Given the track record of Muslims in Pakistan proper, I tend to believe the Hindus. Think the Hindu population of Pak is now at 3 % or so, maybe less. At the time of partition it stood at in excess of 20 %. And we know that a very similar story prevails in other nations where it was Christians who were eventually reduced to insignificant percentages after former plurality status. Or Buddhists in what is now Bangla Desh, the former majority, now less than 1 %. So, are Muslims sometimes maltreated ? Yes, Chechnya, Kosovo, Kashmir, and other such places. But, with zero interest in seeing injustice done to them, their current "oppressors" sometimes have a strong argument to the effect that they simply are bringing about long overdue justice for themselves. Basically how I look at it is case by case.To limit it to Hindu vs Muslim in 2009, I'd say it is something like 30 % the "fault" of Hindus, 70 % the fault of Muslims. Speaking of Christians vs Muslim the figure might be more like 20 / 80 or even 15 / 85. With the Zoroastrians there might be more parity, say 35 / 65 ( historically ). But I don't know of a single case where there is actual parity and in most cases the "preponderance of wrong" is decidedly on the Muslim side of the ledger. For Kashmir, the definition of unpatriotic is a bit touchy. Muslims there argue - not entirely without merit - that they were forcefully annexed to India, and then treated as second class citizens. There's always three sides to every story, and part of our job here is to surface all of them. The atrocities of Muslims is a valid aspect, but only one facet among many.
