Let me be precise here: Fox News peddles a fair amount of hateful crap. Some of it borders on sedition. Much of it is flat out untrue. But I don't understand why the White House would give such poisonous helium balloons as Glenn Beck and Sean Hannity the opportunity for still greater spasms of self-inflation by _declaring war_ (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/23/us/politics/23fox.html?hp) on Fox. If the problem is that stories bloated far beyond their actual importance--ACORN's corruption, Van Jones's radical past--are in danger of leaching out of the Fox hothouse into the general media, then perhaps the Administration should be a bit more diligent about whom it hires and whom it funds. If the problem is broader--that Fox News spreads seditious lies to its demographic sliver of an audience--the Administration should probably be stoic: the wingnuts will always be with us. The best antidote to their garbage is elegant, intelligent governance. The next-best antidote is occasional engagement: I thought Obama came away from his O'Reilly and Chris Wallace interviews much the better for it. (Though you don't want to sit down with a thug like Hannity or a weirdo like Beck.) The problem with war is that it diverts attention from the actual news. The Administration has tried to pursue a sophisticated, difficult domestic and foreign policy. It doesn't offer the quick-fix irresponsibility of a tax cut or an invasion. It needs space, time and patience to explain. This is an enervating, midstream moment. It's not certain that the President's efforts from health care to Afghanistan will succeed. We'll know a lot more in a month, but I really hope the White House hasn't launched this attack to fill the public space while the other issues are being sorted out. The long-term costs of stooping to Fox's level are not just bad posture; they are a diminution of the office and its primary occupant. Van Jones is not a radical commie? I think the anger at Fox News(THE most watch news network in America) stems from fear, plain and simple. Truth just naturally has that certain ring to it, and that has the WH very afraid. ---------------------------- The reason Faux is "THE most watch [sic] news network in America" is this: there is a significant benighted minority unwilling to let honest reporting interfere with their prejudices. 'Twas ever thus, and Faux is their current refuge from the truth. I'm glad Faux is on the air – it tells me a lot about the people who watch it. What do you call them not wanting to let Fox News into the press room yesterday until all the other reporters said they wouldn't go in there either unless Fox was there? Fox is more balanced than any of the other news organizations. Of course they have their opinion shows, but so do the other networks(Keith Olbermann). When it comes to straight reporting, Fox is the best at it. Do you remember the Pew Research poll that said Fox was the most ballanced during the campaing doing the same number of positive and negative stories for both guys(Obama 25% positive, 40% negative; McCain 22% positive, 40% negative). While MSNBC ran negative stories about McCain 73% of the time and positive stories 10% of the time. They don't care about you. They don't care if the GOP remains out of power for the next 50 years. The longer your gang is out of power, the angrier you'll be, and you'll tune into FoxNews more and more as your emotional outlet. You'll be putting money in Rupert and Roger's pockets while your party sinks deeper and deeper into irrelevancy. That's also what drives Rush. Sure, these folks are conservatives...but their loyalty is to themselves and their bank accounts, not the conservative movement and not the Republican Party. What about "dissent is the highest form of patriotism?" Oh, that's right. That adage only applied when the Evil Bush was in power. You libtards are so silly. You're desperate as you see your "president" Barry 0bamao's polling numbers plummet, while all of his signature issues go up in smoke. His first year is an epic fail. In the latest Rasmussen poll, Republicans are beating Democrats in 10 out 10 issues important to the American people and twice as many Americans call themselves conservatives as they do liberals.... ----------------------------------------------------------------------- There is one plain and simple truth being avoided in this discussion: the Government NEVER gets to decide who covers it or how they go about it, whether it is a credible news outlet or a partisan commentary machine. To attempt to banish one of the five major broadcast media outlets by asking the other four to join along is downright unconstitutional. When the other four decline, and even themselves (ABC News specifically) refer to Fox as "one of our sister organizations" while questioning an administration spokesperson, that's all you need to know about how far out of bounds the White House is on this campaign. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- [ WH ] outrage would be more believable if you were discussing sources of reckless reporting and not just FOX news. Your outrage seems at best dishonest since you only attack what is determined by liberals to be a right wing news organization. No mention of the misinformation and out and out lies by CNN, MSNBC and NPR among others. In fact, there have been mis-statements in your own articles. Does that make you incompetent as well.? The righteous indignation of the left is laughable. You pretend to take the high road with a false presumption of superior intelligence when in fact they spend most of the time slandering and trying to discredit anyone who disagrees. The Messiah in trying to slander FOX news as not a news organization by pointing out 2 opinion shows. Fox puts some ridiculous non-stories on the air. They also do some good reporting. Their opinion shows get a lot of stuff wrong. But they are good at taking broad-based, imprecise statements like the ones you make, and using them to their benefit: look! the liberal media is calling us 'seditious' now! Was any of that untrue? How about the Acorn scandal? Was that untrue? Maybe the problem lies with the "On The Fringe" media who are just too blind or too lazy to report anything but what Doctor Feelgood wants reported. ...................... ------------------------------------------------- Remember when those Fox employees refused to read a Monsanto press release on air because they knew it contained lies and were fired? And remember how Fox fought their wrongful termination lawsuit by successfully arguing that it wasn't obligated to put out truthful "news" and could ask its journalists to lie as a course of business? ----------------------------------------------- Yes slander Rush. And no your don't have to be President. The "quotes" attributed to Rush by the left wing nut job media - that's mainstream MSNBC and CNN to you, were slanderous. But to liberals that is ok. Makes your righteous indignation about FOX comical. And let's not discuss who won't let who at rallies. Obama not only hand picked the audience he wrote the questions. Still no runs no hits only errors. ----------------------------- Let's put the Fox in proper perspective. Yes, it leads in CABLE news numbers at around 2.8 mill in prime time. This is like leading the farm club baseball league, and ignoring the majors. Last week, the weakest network news, CBS, pulled in 5.9 mill. NBC did 7.1 and ABC 7.5. ---------------------------------- While you are correct about Prime Time we are talking 24/7 cable news . How many are watching FOX while CBS has Survivor on at 8pm? Or during soaps in the Afternoon. Or while Beck is on at 5PM drawing 3 Million? ---------------------------------- I can probably find more lies in one Joe Klein article than an entire week of Fox News reports. Sedition? Tell me one other US President who knowingly hired admitted communists into their administration other than Obama? Tell me Joe?
