No saris for me, I’ll wear a gown: Swastika

If the evening dress is the single reason why people tune into award
shows,
Swastika Mukherjee will not fail to disappoint us.
Giving the conservative sari a miss, the actor will be seen wearing an
evening gown
for her red carpet traipse at the Toronto International _Film Festival_

this month for
the world premiere of Buddhadeb Dasgupta’s Janala.
Sharing details of her Toronto diary, Swastika says, “I’ll be leaving on
September 10.
The Festival authorities have mailed me the itinerary. I will be attending
three screenings
of my _film_

Since fine movies will be exhibited, Parambrata will help
me decide on
the not-to-be missed Festival top draws.”
Is Param accompanying her to Toronto? “No,” says the actress. “This is an
invitation extended
to just me. I’m taking my stylist, Sandy, along. My sister will also go
along with me.” Will she
be elegant or exciting on the _red carpet_

“I’ll be a trailblazer
for sure,” says the actress, aware
she needs to liven it up and stand out since the red carpet will be
saturated with _celebrities_

doing demure. Then why not the traditional Indian sari, we ask. “I have
seen stars stick to
the tried-and-tested Indian look at film fests here. An international
film festival means
a lot more than just a platform for showcasing Indian exotica.”
Toronto apart, Swastika also has plans to go on short trip before a
pitstop in Mumbai and
her return to Kolkata on September 22. Meanwhile, Param is scheduled to
leave for UK
on September 25 to pursue a year-long Masters in film and television
production at
the University of Bristol. If that isn’t reason enough for a celebration,
Swastika is also
busy making plans to throw a bash for her fiancé at Bodhi Bar on September
23.
“The way Param pampers me, the way he helps me take professional and
personal
decisions and his support 24x7... This relationship has made me so reliant
on him!”
