Ernie: Actually I support RE-criminalization. Anti-sodomy laws were on the books of all 50 states as recently as some point in the early 1970s. And with good reason. Homosexuality is not only immoral, it is unhygenic, fosters anti-social ( nihilistic ) values, promotes a variety of criminal behaviors as part of the "lifestyle" is endorses, viz pedophilia, and is directly correlated with just about every dysfunctional form of conduct you can think of, from drug abuse and alcoholism to violence against others. And, yes, the incidence levels of homosexual vs homosexual violence utterly dwarf so-called "fag bashing," indeed, by orders of magnitude, roughly 1000 to 3000 reported cases of the latter vs approximately 100, 000 cases of the former -with one well known estimate produced by homosexual themselves placing the "real" number at between 250,000 and 1/2 million. Given these realities, contra the impression promoted relentlessly by the media and by pro-homosexuals in government, exactly why shouldn't homosexuality be re-criminalized ? Homosexuals are, by inclination, irresponsible in the extreme, prone to "ordinary"criminal acts at rates far higher than for heterosexuals, and, when organized, seek to subvert just about every value upon which out society rests. It is no accident that the core teachings of just about every religion on Earth, at least in their traditional forms, which means their founding scriptures as well as sacred myths and cherished customs, are all opposed to homosexuality. This includes the Qur'an and it includes all "orthodox" forms of Hinduism. etc. not just Bible-based faiths. That is, to the extent some form of religious faith is seen as vital to the well-being of any organized community or nation, then toleration of homosexuality is no different than acceptance of a population that, in essence, seeks the destruction of all normative religions -either outright, as among those who are self-avowedly "queer," or indirectly via so-called "transformation" of theologies or values. And think of what toleration encourages, among other things, as David Horowitz pointed out in his 1998 book, The Politics of Bad Faith, spread of epidemic diseases like Hepatitis B, herpes, amoebiasis, etc, and, of course, AIDS, due to anti-public heath values of the "gay community" and made into law ( or non-enforcement of law ) due to pro-homosexual political leaders. AIDS, as of a decade ago, had claimed close to 500, 000 lives, nearly all of that number preventable, because the CDC simply caved to homosexual pressure group politics. I have also started to work on developing a theory of anal-fixation, or anal-infantilism, as a major source of the phenomenon of male homosexuality. Horowitz's book , most unexpectedly, provides all sorts of data that goes far toward establishing this as a viable hypothesis. And just what to do think happens when anal-fixated homosexuals create values for the rest of us via movies, TV shows, popular songs, rap "music" lyrics, and everything else ? Nothing happens ? Not really, unless you --anyone-- also believes that advertising itself has no effects. And who would be so stupid as to say that advertising has no consequences ? Not to mention, in all of this, the clear correlation between homosexuality and a host of other pathologies which attach themselves to homosexuals much like barnacles to the sides of ships. In sum, there is nothing at all to say on behalf of homosexuality, absolutely nothing, and a plethora of criticisms to make. On what possible grounds can anyone justify legalization of any form of homosexuality ? Justice ? O, yeah ? By what stretch of anyone's imagination is justice served by furthering any of the phenomena just discussed ? The entire civil rights argument as applied to homosexuality has been a travesty from the beginning and is only possible because our system of government is, is so many words, a legalocracy, a system of rule by lawyers. The size of government isn't the problem , or is only a minor problem. FAR more crucial is the nature of a government in which lawyers call all the shots I am beginning to think that any education in the Law ought to be regarded as antithetical to public service. Which is approximately as true whether we are discussing Democrats or Republicans who practice law. NO MORE LAWYERS should be elected to office. Maybe this is an idea which can catch on in the future. OK, I don't mean it literally, but how about a Constitutional Amendment that restricts the number of lawyers holding public office to 10 % ? "So they pretend that homosexuals do not exist or that they can be 'cured' and communicate this message to the community." 'Flush out gays' Both Christian and Muslim clerics have publicly condemned homosexuality for many years - describing it as a sin, abnormal or immoral. One of the most extreme examples of religious leaders advocating repression of gay people is Ugandan Pastor Martin Ssempa. He openly endorses Uganda's anti-gay bill, and last week screened gay pornography at a church in Kampala to drum up support for the proposed legislation. In Kenya, too, religious leaders have been at the heart of anti-gay campaigns. In a statement last week, US-based Human Rights Watch quoted witnesses as saying Christian and Muslim leaders had joined together to call for communities to "flush out gays". The group wrote to the Kenyan government calling on it to end the attacks on gay people, which it described as planned rather than spontaneous. "The police need to arrest the attackers and put a halt to what appears to be a co-ordinated nationwide attack on people perceived to be homosexual," said HRW's Dipika Nath. No understanding While HRW describes a climate of fear in Kenya's gay community, other rights groups say the upsurge in homophobia is encouraging gay-rights campaigners to be more forceful. Ms Mbaru says activists are rising up against homophobia. "Many see this as unjust and have begun to co-ordinate with each other and put pressure on retrogressive societies," she says. "When you deny people the right to be who they are, you are forcing them underground and ultimately they rebel." Gay-rights group Behind the Mask believes there is a lack of understanding of gay issues, fuelled by misrepresentations in the press and fiery speeches by religious leaders. "When many hear the word homosexual they immediately think of sodomy, paedophilia," says the organisation's Noma Pakade. "They don't understand that a homosexual relationship can be a commitment between two consenting adults based on love, just as it is with heterosexuals." Homosexuality is illegal in many African countries - particularly Arab North Africa and those with a British colonial past such as Kenya, Uganda and Malawi. British colonial legislators outlawed "carnal intercourse against the order of nature with any man, woman or animal". It is that law which Uganda is now proposing to strengthen, from a 14-year sentence to prison to life. The bill also proposes the death penalty for a new offence of "aggravated homosexuality" - defined as when one of the participants is a minor, HIV-positive, disabled or a "serial offender". 'Love, not hate' There are small pockets of resistance within the religious community - but theirs is a hard fight. Reverend Michael Kimundu served the Anglican Church in Mtwapa, Kenya, for 30 years. But recently the Church expelled him because leaders found out that he headed a religious organisation called The Other Sheep, which preaches tolerance towards gay people. "I am a preacher I should be spreading love, not hate - that is why I don't believe in treating the homosexual community with disdain," he says.
