I quibble with the "equation" not the association. For sure, Nazism included Fascism. But it also included nationalism, anti-Semitism, etc.; conversely, not all Fascists were Nazis.
Of course you know that; perhaps as a techie I use the word "equate" much stricter than you do. Bur I think it helps in these discussions to be as precise as possible (but no more so, of course:).
