Ladies and Gents,
I would like to announce my resignation from CEZOBAL with immediate
effect. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I feel I can no longer
carry on with the duties as an Executive Member of CEZOBAL any more. I
will hand over everything regarding CEZOBAL and Basketball in Malawi as
whole to Mr. Jacob Chikoya on Thursday when we meet to reconcile
everything regarding our first ever Gala Night.
I hope for the little period I was involved with Basketball in Malawi
especially in the Central Zone I was able to inspire a few individuals
so that they can carry on from where I left. I would have loved to have
at least served for a longer period and see Basketball in the Central
Region grow to new heights which was never experienced before in the
Basketball circles in Malawi. But due to circumstances beyond my control
I don't see myself carrying on in the current environment. In the few
months I've been involved with Central Zone basketball I've really
enjoyed myself and learnt a lot of things which have really helped me
understand alto of things about my beloved Malawi. I got to interact
with a large section of people who I only saw around town, I got to see
some progress taking place regarding discipline within the leagues, and
above all I got to work with a few extremely dedicated individuals who
shared the same visions as me, regarding raising the profile of
basketball and wanted to see some change regarding the way basketball is
see in Malawi. Basketball is the second largest sport behind football
worldwide, but in Malawi we fall short behind the likes of netball,
chess, golf, tennis, darts etc, at least all the other sport disciplines
are able to attract sponsorship ahead of Basketball.
Above all else I got to make a lot of new friends and I enjoyed
interacting with most of the guys (players) whom we have started to get
to know each other and I will carry on doing so. I'm sure most of you
know very well that I have never played basketball before, but I love
watching it. My two brothers are the ones who played in the Blantyre
league some years ago, and they are one of the people who where pushing
me to join in the administration of the game and see if I can help
improve the standard and profile of the game.
I am sorry if I'm hurting some individuals who were looking up to me as
someone who was independent, coming in without any former or current
attachments with any team to try and bring sanity to the league. A lot
of people who know me very well know what I stand for and I hate
failure, and everything that I do, I always put in 100% effort. I truly
hope CEZOBAL will be able to get a lot of dedicated individuals to come
and steer Basketball in the Central region to Great Heights.
To the newly born brand CBAL "in your face" I'm wishing those who will
take over to take it to the heights we where looking on taking it to.
I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a very prosperous new year. May
the Good Lord be with you all.
Kind regards,
Barlett Mafuleka
