Latest FIBA rules 2010. This is in my capacity as a player and someone who happened to have the rules handy when you asked. The official clarification might come from the committee itself. Art. 21 Game lost by default 21.1 Rule A team shall lose a game by default if, during the game, the team has fewer than two (2) players on the playing court ready to play. 21.2 Penalty 21.2.1 If the team to which the game is awarded is ahead, the score shall stand as at the time when the game was stopped. If the team to which the game is awarded is not ahead, the score shall be recorded as two to zero (2 to 0) in its favour. The defaulting team shall receive one (1) point in the classification. 21.2.2 For a two-game (home and away) total point series, the team that defaults in the first or in the second game shall lose the series by 'default'. There was a certain incident in our game against Cougers where they they only had 3 players remaining on the court, our team actually started celebrating because I believe ABC were awarded a game because the team they were playing with had 3 players remaining on the court and the rest of them were fouled out. This rule applied then, I would like to know why this rule did not apply yesterday. We believe that Cezoball should have awarded us the points in the same way they awarded ABC. The ref justified the decision to continue by saying that " Mdzodzo's game was forfited becaise the incident happened early in the second quarter" , aaaaahh gentlement is this really a true justification. I really thnk the league should take this matter up, why should a rule that applied in one game not apply in the next.
