Electricity's no good either; sorry. Bicycle is an alternative, but you aren't
allowed to fix on the sabbath.
What I've been thinking of is a Flintstones-type car with a roof. This might have
possibilities. (Actually, growing up I lived a mile and a half from synagogue; spent
a lot of time thinking
up alternatives, like an automatic conveyor belt with chairs, automated transporters,
automated catapults, etc, but they all had some logistical difficulties.)
(BTW I'll be walking too.)
