I think that's true of most places.  What tourist would come to Sydney
Australia and not go to the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge?  Yet I
know quite a few people who've never been inside.  (Yes, you can go inside
the harbour bridge)

And I'm sure there are lots of Parisiens who've never climbed the Eiffel
Tower

And having been to Woking in England, I know for a fact there are lots of
locals who've never woked up (nyuk nyuk nyuk- sorry).

I guess it's just our natural tendency to discount the familiar.

As someone who spent 8 years travelling the world in an export assignment
for Lexmark, I can testify that there are wonders galore everywhere, and
always plenty of locals who, while not exactly scoffing at the tourist
attractions, stay away from them, saying  "they're only for tourists".

Well they're all the losers for it.
