What makes this a troll??? Some people feel VERY strongly about this issue.
I agree
that it's not an appropriate topic for cf-talk.
I think people are slowly starting to realize in today's economy that the
average programmer with a four year degree is the rough equivalent of a
semi-skilled finish carpenter or plumber of thirty or forty years ago. If
the industry can import a programmer for 75% of the cost of hiring one
domestically, you can be assured that they will do everything in their power
to do so. I honestly don't know if we're in such a shortage that we need to
import programmers, but at the same time I see the quality of workers in the
typical restaurant or hardware store today, and I can only hope that an
explanation for their lack of competence can be explained by a severe labor
shortage.
