Starting with IE 4, Microsoft started integrating the browser deeply with the OS. Changes were made to several of the DLLs required by the OS to run. With each subsequent upgrade of IE, Microsoft screwed with even more DLLs. Because of this, the DLLs installed with IE 5 are not compatible with IE 4. I'm sure there are ways to do this, but I never did figure it out.
