   Did you modify it yourself, or have your own lawyer look at it?  Your 
consultant friend's lawyer had your consultant friend's best interests in 
mind when reviewing the contract, not yours.  (He probably didn't even know 
you existed at the time)

   I never had to fight about this in court.  I can't imagine that it 
wouldn't stand up in court.  (Assuming you have a signed contract)  I 
typically have a termination fee built into contracts, but I don't ask for 
any money up front.  (I'll probably change that, because of a few unpaid 
invoices)

   I've never had any problems with that.  Does the client know that you 
will not be available 24/7 to answer questions?  Make it known  (or put it 
in the contract).

   Are they going to want you on-site at all?  You may want to have 
something in the contract that mentions the cost does not cover excess 
expenses.  Your profits (and time) will be eaten up big time if they want 
you to fly across three time zones some weekend to show them how to 
properly close an HTML table.
