I agree. While the web development community is a lot more lenient about
the degree requirement, a lot of other fields are not. For instance,
moving into almost any management position in a larger company almost
always requires a degree. The focus is less on what the degree is in, than
on just having one. Similarly, management consulting is particularly
stringent about degrees. You'll be paddling against the tide without one.
I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts. I'm not an artist. But I don't regret the
time I spent in college, as it exposed me to a lot of concepts and ideas
that I doubt I would've gotten on my own.
