I did 3 years of my degree (3rd year sandwich), and was offered a job on
double what I was previously earning, at the end of the sandwich course.

Basically, I could not afford to stay at uni - I would have had to delay
getting married, and would have had to work part time thoughout the final
year - not really allowing enough time for actual uni work...

Also - upon finishing Uni, I would have had a years less experience in cf
etc, and would have been in many ways less employable than before...

I would have liked to have finished the course, and no doubt in some ways I
may in future regret not having done so, but I certainly believe ATM that I
made the right decision...

BTW - I am expecting my first child at the end of July...

Cheers

Dan

Here, here!! I graduated with a BA in Theater Design in 1984 (when yes, I
know, most of you were drooling or at the most, coloring....). When I
decided to do a career switch and get into web development, I went back to
school for a MA in Computer Resources and Information Management and
graduated in 1999. My MA classes were mostly management classes...decidedly
NOT technical in any way, but having the degree opened LOTS of doors with
potential employers, and paved the way to getting that web development job.

Katie <--Poster child for continuing education ;-)

For those of you youngsters out there pondering this thread and thinking "I
don't need a degree", I have some advice. Although some of the arguments for
not getting a degree are somewhat logical, having a degree gives you
options. Just like having money gives you options. It makes life easier.
There are many exceptions, but if you want to go with the smart money odds,
get that degree.
