Nuh no..the bottle neck in some machines will be the graphics card for game
playing.

The only reason you need this massive amount of speed if you aren't running
a server, is for playing games/watching DVDs/Doign multimedia stuff.
Most of which invariably involves high intensity graphics processing.

marry a 1GHz + to a Nvidia Geforce GTS2 Ultra 64MB and you should be set
Also, depending on the TYPE of game you are playing, less emphasis may be
placed on the graphics card.

For example, a game that depends heavily on caluclations such as a Flight
Simulator, may be CPU limited, rather than Graphics limited. So if you step
from 800*600 with everything on to 1600 and up, you might get close to the
same frame rates. In which case overclocking could net you some more FPS.

Of course a bloody 1Ghz plus chip married to a GeForce 3 is going to
SCREAAAMM through anything out there now! :)
Ain't nothing gonna break your striiidee!
Ain't nothing gonna sloowww yooouuu down!
OH NO! Ya gonna keep on movinnngg!!

*pirouettes*

Check this link for a case where this is true with Flanker 2 and an
overclocked Athlon 1.4Ghz processor:

You can also check my little..uhh..discussion with the editors of SimHQ here
where I expound upon the unworthiness of the new P4 1.7 Ghz ...
btw..anybody got one of these puppies? :)

The reviewer , in his defence, basically said that Intel gave htem the
processor and machine to test, so he was being 'respectful' by not hitting
them hard about the chip performance and comparing it to an Athlon 1.3 etc.
www.firingsquad.com on the other hand, was brutal..and gave the chip a 70%.

Some interesting info for overclockers and those interested in the latest
chips out there.

Ah well..lunch break's over :)

I've been reading that the cpu is no longer the bottleneck at these 1gig+
speeds, 'specially if ya gotta lotta RAM.
Supposedly the real throughput bottleneck is sustained disk transfer speed.
