I'm sure that the violence in Russia had nothing to do with the fact that
people were probably killing for bread, Doesn't sound like a highly
scientific analysis.

Not to beat a dead horse, but my local paper actually had an interesting
article entitle debunking the gun control myth. It brought some very
interesting points that refute the claims of gun control advocates.
Claim #1) Gun Control reduces violent crime / behaviour.
Refutes: Switzerland has almost universal gun ownership, teenagers are
highly encouraged to practice target shooting, and Switzerland has one of
the lowest violent crime rates in the world. On the other hand, In the
eighties it was nearly impossible for a soviet citizen to get any type of
firearm, yet the Soviet Union had one of the highest violent crime rates
(higher then even the US).
There were a ton more, but I probably ticked enough people off by just
listing one :)
