My girlfriend finished a small project on skin damage by the sun for Uni.
Apparently any tan is a sign of skin damage, and the earliest years have the
greatest effects in getting cancer. Here in Australia, I think we have one
of the hightest (if not the highest) rates of skin cancer. First Outburst:
Gah! Ozone Layer!
(okay, degradation of the ozone layer isn't the single culprit, people
trying to get 'burnt' would be the major prob :-)
But then of course the sun is required for health, so we'll get ill if not
involved with it. Second Outburst: Gah! Extremes of exposure don't work!
I never liked the badly cured leather look either...

I much not to try and 'get a tan'. I never did get very dark even when I
was young and foolish about trying for that elusive 'perfect' tan. I only
turned golden after an all too painful bright red.

Fortunately, I came to my senses about the harmful effects too much sun can
have on my skin type (fair haired - fair skinned) at a fairly
reasonable/young age (ok, so it wasn't until I was 23 - still that's fairly
yoiung). Must've been that waitress my sister and I saw when we were
younger....her skin, while sporting this deep tan, looked like badly cured
leather - all wrinkled...and I don't think she was all that old. Now, even
though 40 is only two years away, I still get mistaken for being in my mid
to late 20's. :oD

The Other Judith :o)
pale and more than happy to stay that way - cuts down on white make-up for
the 'goth' look ;o)
