My two cents on the logo.

Yes, I agree with the majority of opinion here that the logo needs some
definite jazzing up. It's a bit lackluster and doesn't neccesarily sell the
product. All of Macromedia's other logos have some pizazz to them, that make
them eye-appealing. I have always liked Fireworks little fireball, and even
Flash's abstract movie-wheel(?) has always seemed cool.

I will continue to associate the Zues-like icon of the hand holding the
lightning bolt to ColdFusion. It brings images of power, and rapid execution
to mind. It sticks in the head.

I think what they've tried to do is simplify the logo so it fits in their
scheme of things. (i.e. using simple icons to associate with their product
line.) I know when I see the the flames of fire, it represents Fireworks.
And I can already recognize the UltraDev logo from afar.

ASP doesn't have a logo that I can think of (other than Microsoft), but it
is backed by Microsoft's various colorful creations. (for a few:
http://www.microsoft.com/ms.htm) All very easy on the eyes, and
solid-feeling almost.

Macromedia's art team should have figured out a way to Macromedia-ize the
logo without dropping the hand. I don't know what the significance of the
time wheel is, other than maybe it symbolizes rapid development.

However, isn't it a bit too late? How many boxes has Macromedia had printed
up at this point? How many marketing materials have this stamped all over
them? How many press releases? It seems to me as if we are a bit tardy with
our opinions for the impending release June 1, of Macromedia ColdFusion 5.0.
Maybe they can do a logo makeover for ver. 6?

Oh, well. C'est la vie.

Just my opinion. Thankfully, I don't judge software products by their logos
alone!

Subject: ColdFusion Logo

Two weeks back we asked subscribers to Fusion Authority to give us some
feedback about the new ColdFusion logo. We got a handful of responses, but
they really weren't enough. I'd like to know what you, the ColdFusion using
community thinks about the logo. Also, if its not to your liking, please
tell us why and what could be done to change it. I know Macromedia is
listening and we'll compile all the results into an article for a future
Fusion Authority.
If you don't want the world to know your opinion about it, you can email me
directly with your comments.
