Ed, you're correct: US beer, for the most part, is worse than water
unfortunately.
You've got to stick with the smaller breweries that each hand-craft their
own flavorful quality brews.

The average American would probably have criticisms about UK beer (i.e. too
strong or what's that floating in it ?) ...but then again we aren't "average
Americans" in this group here.

It is definitely true that water makes a huge difference along with the
quality and quantity of the rest of the ingredients such as hops, yeast and
malts. My first entrepreneurial venture was back in my journalism days. I
wrote 3-5 articles about beer monthly (newsletter) for five years.
Considered myself an expert, though there were no VUE Certification tests
offered :) Not certified, but certifiable!

While the craft brew industry has kind of fizzled here, there are still
plenty of quality brews to choose from, usually. When a bar/rest only has
the standard American fare, I stick with soda.

So when someone says American beer sucks, I have to agree. But I also must
defend the smaller breweries out there creating great quality products.

Thanks, Tim

I was impressed by a lot of things the last time I was in the US.
Unfortunately your beer is so far away from being good that it may as well
be flavoured water. <grin>

best wishes,
