How many of you have seen this movie yet? I just got back from watching it.
I can say is that I imagine it's going to get the crap beat out of it on /.
hehehe. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty good for an action flick and John
Travolta does a great job as a moraly ambiguous semi-badguy, but it's a
movie where the central plot revolves around computers and, *shudder*,
hacking.
Historicly, Hollywood and computer flicks haven't done well together ..
exceptions such as War Games, Sneakers, and (sorta) The Matrix, noted.
Unfortunately, this movie reminded me more of Hackers than anything. When I
hear Halle Berry tell the main hacker d00d that *their* computer is special
because, not only does it have 6 screens, but it has a, get this, a DS3 that
allows them to connect to 7 seperate networks at once!! When I heard that,
I was like, WTF??? She really didn't just say that with a straight face did
she?
Then they started with the "hacker" speak. Some of the phrases they managed
to come up with almost made me laugh out loud in the theater. Durring some
of the tense moments between the main characters, I wouldn't have been
suprised if one of them had busted out with "j00 c4nn0t h4x0r m3!! I will
0wn j00!! w00t!!" I was honestly embarrassed for the actors and wanted to
line up the writers and just clack all their heads together.
The movie was good, otherwaise, but all that crap just made it totaly
unbelieveable for me .. Still, if you don't know what logic bombs and worms
are, and don't know anything about cracking or much about how networking and
firewalls really work, then you might be able to suspend disbelief enough to
really enjoy this movie .. *sigh* at least Shrek was good .. I should have
watched it second.
