Thanks Y'all,
(Gee that sounds funny coming from a Canuck.) Anyway, the
decision is made and the deed is done. I gave my supervisor a
memo stating that I am looking at other options and that,
although I love the work that this organization does, it is
apparent that it is no longer meeting my professional and
personal needs. (Like food and clothing...) I stated that I will
do whatever I can to make the transition as smooth as possible
for them.
Strange but true, I'd rather be canned than offered a new
contract. In Canada, if you are laid-off or fired for something
not really your fault, there is employment insurance (EI).(Being
stupid/honest enough to give my boss a memo that says I'm looking
for another job still qualifies as 'not my fault') But if you
turn down a contract, any contract, tough noogies. I am confident
(with faith) that I will have a new position before the end of
this month anyway. I just had another phone interview last night
that is resulting in a live interview later this week.
If I don't get a new job and I am canned, EI may help me get
funding/grants to start my own business or grants to finish my
degree. Funny how being employed doesn't give me enough money to
do either, but being unemployed would. Backward socialist
country! :P
I won't find out the impact of the memo today as my supervisor is
out on a shoot. (The organization also produces a TV show.) But
I'm supposed to hear back from one company tomorrow and interview
with another Thursday, so no worries.
I just realized that one of the companies I'm applying for might
be subscribed to this list. That would mean I have just
undermined my salary negotiation tactics. Oh well, they already
told me their base and that's good for me.
