Yeah, I'd get Windows 2000 no matter what (knock on wood, my workstation at
work has run for two weeks without a reboot). Win ME just doesn't cut it and
98 is a bit old for a new machine. I'm looking at 700-750Mhz range with
128mb ram.
Judith - why don't you like Gateways, if you don't mind me asking? I own a
few desktops from them and have never had any complaints. I know the Z1 has
a 15 inch screen standard, which, I agree, is a big plus. (think Gateway
does charge a bit more for their larger screen models)

Whatever model you choose, I would recommend purchasing one that you can put
Windows NT on. That way you can create a complete environment including a
mail server, SQL Server, etc.
Dells are pretty good. And not too expensive. You can load Win2000 Pro on
most - not sure about NT server or Win2000 Server.
